Vital springs installed
General Electric (GE) has been working with teams from EDF and Bylor to make huge progress on the Unit 1 Conventional Island by installing 64 massive springs at the top of the Turbine Group (TG) columns. Each unit weighs around 1.5 tonnes and will help to absorb the vibrations of the turbine and generator.
Work began in July, with GE installing the springs that were then lifted in by Bylor.
Bylor has now started the next stage of works – raising the decking to the underside of the table, just above the springs and putting in 532 tonnes of rebar. This work will then enable a continuous pour of around 2,500m3 of concrete.
First permanent building handed over
Framatome has taken official ownership of the first permanent building to be completed
at HPC. The 4,000m2 warehouse located in the south-west corner of the site will be used for the storage of parts before they are installed on site.
Once HPC is fully operational, the building will then store large strategic components, such as those needed for routine servicing.
Another marine milestone
The HPC Marine Works team has recently celebrated another achievement, having accomplished its second goal of the year with the completion of the outfall tunnel drive. Tunnel boring machine (TBM) Emmeline finished her journey to secure the milestone.
Meanwhile, TBM Beatrice will soon enter full-bore mode, working on the third and final tunnel.
